Mystery Fancy Box: February 2015 Review

image

Fancy.com is known for their “Fancy Boxes” filled with surprise goodies… delivered right to your doorstep! There used to be subscription box options that were curated by celebrities, until sadly they cancelled that last month. They offered ONLY this new “Mystery” box for the same price and still promised it would contain $80.00+ worth of goods, so I signed up.  This month’s/ the first mystery box (and my last!!!) contained, the following CRAP:

  1. Gun Comb, Retail $9 on fancy.com  (Not sure if this was a mistake or not… but I got TWO of these in my box.  This would have been great… if I hadn’t bought 2 for Christmas gifts last year… for the only two people I know, that would love this.)
  2. “Work Hard, Stay Humble” Vinyl Impression, Retail $20 on fancy.com  (A phrase I already live by… and I don’t need a wall cling to remind me.  This is just stupid.  I’ll be listing it on ebay.)
  3. The Motley, Gin Tonic Bath Salts, Retail $14 on theMotley.com  (This is for men, …and my hubby doesn’t bathe in bathtubs very often… but I gave this to him, on the rare occasion that he does.  I’ll be sure to pick up a toy battleship to go with it LOL!)
  4. Benjo’s, Gimme Kiss Boot & Shoe Lacing, Retail $8 on benjos.com  (I don’t wear oxfords, which is typically what these would be for.  Hopefully I can find a buyer on ebay.)

Five items in this box, with a total value of $60.00.  I paid just under $50 including shipping.  I was SO disappointed with this box, that I immediately cancelled the subscription.  Not only was the value not $80+ as promised… but 2 of the items were THE SAME THING… and the other items were complete crap!  Also, the info card that usually comes with each box, was once again missing.

The fancy box used to be something I would anxiously await… now I’d be embarrassed for someone to see it on my doorstep!  My last 2 boxes for January never arrived & I had to repeatedly email their customer service until I finally received my refunds yesterday!  I’m not sure what happened with this company, but it seemed to me like they had a good thing going… and then just threw it all away!

I give this Fancy Box 0 paws.  It was so bad… It’s not even worthy of 1 paw.

Nicky Hilton Fancy Box: December 2014 Review

Fancy.com is known for their “Fancy Boxes” filled with surprise goodies… delivered right to your doorstep!  Best part?!… some of the subscription box options are curated by celebrities!! That means the items are hand-picked by the celebrity of your choice and each box promises to contain $80.00+ worth of goods.  I’ve subscribed to the Jennifer Love Hewitt & Coco Rocha boxes in prior months.  Other celeb boxes available, include Snoop Dogg, Kelly Rowland, and T-Pain to name a few. This month’s/ my 1st Nicky Hilton box contained the following:

  1. S.O.S. Shoemergency Kit by Solemates, Retail $20 on thesolemates.com  (This was the perfect item for me… because I am a high heel aficionado!  I will put this kit to good use!!)
  2. OhhDeer “Galaxy in Watercolour” Pillow, Retail $42 on ohhdeer.com  (I love galaxy prints and it matches our bedroom perfectly!!  It’s so soft and cuddly… Another great item.)
  3. “Steep Up to the Plate” Teabag Rest, Retail $10 on fancy.com  (This is just stupid.  A teabag rest?!?  Why would you need to rest it?  When I’m done steeping… I just thrown the bag in the trash!  Why dirty another dish?  I don’t get it.  I put this in a “secret santa” gift exchange at Christmas time LOL!!)

Three items total in this box, with a total value of $72.00.  I paid just under $50 including shipping.  I’m bummed that there were only 3 items in the box and the value was not $80+ as promised… but I really liked 2 of the 3 items.  Also, in previous box reviews from other subscribers, they mentioned Nicky includes a cat themed item almost every month… and I was looking forward to that, since I love cats so much… Sadly no cat themed items in this one.  Booo!  The info card that usually comes with each box, describing why the celebrity chose each item…was missing from the box… I didn’t realize how much I liked reading that and would miss it LOL.

I give this Fancy Box 3 paws.

Jennifer Love Hewitt Fancy Box: November 2014 Review

Fancy.com is known for their “Fancy Boxes” filled with surprise goodies… delivered right to your doorstep!  Best part?!… some of the subscription box options are curated by celebrities!! That means the items are hand-picked by the celebrity of your choice and each box promises to contain $80.00+ worth of goods.  I’ve been a subscriber to the Jennifer Love Hewitt box since July 2014.  Other celeb boxes available, include Snoop Dogg, Kelly Rowland, Nicky Hilton, Coco Rocha and T-Pain to name a few.  This month’s box contained the following:

  1. Waku Sweater Cup & Saucer, $14 on mollaspace.com  (I don’t have much need for a cup & saucer set… when I drink tea, it’s in a mug twice the size of this cup and… is a saucer really necessary?!  It’s just a fancy coaster that will need to be washed LOL.  The sweater pattern is cute, but I will likely gift this or sell it on ebay.)
  2. Colour Me Good Kate Moss Book, $12 on amazon.com  (I’m a creative person, so I love the idea of adult themed coloring books! …I’m just not a fan of Kate Moss.  When I looked for this on amazon, I saw the Illustrator, Mel Elliott, has a lot of these published!  I would have rather had the “Fashion” or “Cara Delevingne” book!!  But if anything, purchasing these fancy boxes introduces me to wonderful things I never knew existed, …like this!)
  3. “You’re Beautiful.” Cards & Case, $5 on fancy.com  (15 cards that say “You’re Beautiful, and it took all I have inside to hand you this.”  Metal case included.  This should be meant for men… I would never give one of these cards to anyone… it is silly & slightly weird/creepy LOL.  I’ll be selling this on ebay.)
  4. Gipsy Big Spot Tights, $16 on amazon.com  (Black sheer tights with black opaque dots, one size fits all.  Upon looking at the photo on amazon, of these tights on a model,… these look less like a fashion statement… and more like a skin condition LOL!  I like polka dots, but not in this way, Ew!  I’ll be listing these on ebay!)
  5. Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo 2.5oz,  $19 on amazon.com  (I am yet to find a dry shampoo that truly makes my hair look and feel freshly washed… when it’s not.  Look for this review very soon, after I test it out!)
  6. Two’s Company Chatham Globe Vase, $15 on amazon.com  (Made of hand-blown glass and can be used as a candle holder, vase or candy dish. This is probably something I didn’t need, but it’s cute and I’ll find it a purpose in my home.)

Six items total in this box, with a value of $81.00.  I paid just under $50 including shipping.  I’m only keeping 2 of the 6 items in the box, but the value greatly exceeds what I paid and is actually $1 over the $80 guaranteed value!  This month’s selections weren’t great & I’m not too sure what the theme was.  Also, I didn’t get the info card that usually comes with each box, describing why JLH chose each item.

I give this Fancy Box 2 paws.  (If the value wasn’t this good, I would’ve given it 1 paw!)

Coco Rocha Fancy Box: October 2014 Review

Fancy.com is known for their “Fancy Boxes” filled with surprise goodies… delivered right to your doorstep!  Best part?!… some of the subscription box options are curated by celebrities!! That means the items are hand-picked by the celebrity of your choice and each box promises to contain $80.00+ worth of goods.  Coco Rocha is my 2nd celebrity box subscription… (I’ve been a subscriber to the Jennifer Love Hewitt box since July 2014).  Other celeb boxes available, include Snoop Dogg, Kelly Rowland, Nicky Hilton, and T-Pain to name a few.  My 2nd Coco Rocha box included the following:

  1. Kikkerland Cloud USB Hub, $11 on amazon.com  (I actually don’t have a USB hub & needed one, so I was super excited to see this cute cloud-shaped device in the box!!)
  2. Saressa Designs Druzy Pebble Studs, $30 on SaressaDesigns.com  (Cute earrings… I just wish they were in ANY other color!  The sage green isn’t doing it for me… I will be selling these on ebay.)
  3. Happy Days Mug, $11 on bloomsburystore.com (This whimsical mug says “YEAH!” on the inside bottom, so you see it when you’ve downed the last sip… I am all about things that promote positive thinking … Love it!)
  4. Denik Ice Cream Swirl Notebook, $12 on denik.com  (I have a gazillion notebooks… I absolutely don’t need another one.  I think $12 is a bit over-priced and I’m not crazy about the swirl print… it reminds me of tie-dye, which should stay locked up in the print vault until the end of time!!)
  5. Propaganda Brain Eraser, $10 on fancy.com  (I don’t think it is worth $10 and I very seldom write with pencil… but it will look adorable on my desk if a lead on paper emergency occurs! LOL)
  6. Decorative Tape, $7 on fancy.com  (I love that the black damask print is on clear tape… so it can be added to any color box, etc. to add that extra special designer touch!)

Six items total in this box, with a value of $81.  I paid just under $50 including shipping.  I liked 4 of the 6 items… but sadly I did not like the most expensive item in the box.  A very good value though, considering what I paid for it all.

I give this Fancy Box 3 paws!

  1. Mason Jar Shot Glasses, $14 on amazon.com  (I’ve actually considered purchasing these many times, but didn’t… so i’m happy to have received these!  Adorable mini versions of this southern classic kitchen staple!)
  2. Chickpea Magazine, $18 on chickpeamagazine.com  (I absolutely despise mushrooms… They are SO Eww!  The cover and several pages are devoted to this super nasty fungus.  Plus this is a vegan quarterly magazine… I’m not a vegan.  None of the recipes seem even remotely appetizing.  Some of the font in this magazine makes it incredibly hard to read.  Sadly this is the most expensive item in the box… and I hate it.  I’ll be giving this to my mushroom-loving dad!)
  3. Vintage Paper Straws, $2.50 on amazon.com  (from ‘Dress My Cupcake’ in light blue chevron… cute, no need for them in the foreseeable future, but I’m sure I’ll use them!)
  4. Stoneware Mini Baker, $12 on amazon.com  (I’m not sure how much I needed another item in my small kitchen… but I don’t have a stoneware baker this size… not sure if I’ll ever need one…  I’ll keep it for a while & see if I use it.)
  5. Egg Salt & Pepper Shakers, $11 on amazon.com  (from ‘Creative Co-op’… I’m not into theme table settings, again… primarily due to my tiny kitchen & the lack of storage.  I’ll be giving this to my mom, who loves this type of thing and entertains our large family around a kitchen table frequently!)

Five items total in this box, with a value of $57.50.  I paid just under $50 including shipping.  I’m only loving 1 item in the box, so although the value exceeds what I paid… I’m not very happy with this month’s selection.

I give this Fancy Box 2 paws.

Jennifer Love Hewitt Fancy Box: September 2014 Review

20140903_202205

  1. La Fresh Face Wipes, $9 on Amazon.com (I live in the Sunshine State… and it’s HOT!  It doesn’t take long at all in this heat, especially in summer, to break a sweat.  I absolutely love wiping my face down with a fresh wipe to cool off and feel refreshed.  Can’t wait to try these out!  Look for this review in my Skin Care section!)
  2. White Galaxy Glow Laces, $12 on LacedUpLaces.com (I don’t really wear sneakers anywhere when it’s dark… so I’m not sure when I’ll use these or what sneakers I would put them on… But I’ll figure out a way to have fun with these!)
  3. Fresh Sagaform Smoothie Mug, $11 on RoyalDesign.com (Enclosed info card says “Perfect for smoothies on the go”… I say it’s perfect for Sangria on the go! LOL!!  It’s BPA free too, which I’m all about…. the only toxin I’m putting in my body is alcohol HaHa.)
  4. Onyx Food Container, $29 on Amazon.com (Eco-friendly Tiffin set for packing lunch on the go.  I’ve never seen or heard of anything like this.  I will definitely use this since I take my lunch to work almost every day.  It has 2 compartments that stack, a lid and it sits in a holder that latches shut with a handle on top!)
  5. Kitsch Passion Fruit Headbands, $10 on Amazon.com (some girls may say “you can never have too many” …i think i possibly may have too many LOL.  They are bright and fun & I don’t already have any in this new “tie” style that is becoming so popular.)
  6. Kitsch Passion Fruit Hair Ties, $10 on Amazon.com (Again… I have so many of these… but they are bright, fun colors and I do like the “tie” style for these because they really do look adorable as bracelets too when they aren’t in your hair!)

Six items total in this box, with a value of $81.  I paid just under $50 including shipping.  I like all 6 items… Not super excited about any of them, but I’m happy with what i got and what I paid for it all.

I give this Fancy Box 3 paws!

Coco Rocha Fancy Box: September 2014 Review

20140903_204618

My first Coco Rocha box included the following:

  1. “Coco Made Me Do It” T-Shirt, $16 on Amazon.com  (Coco is too cute!  In the enclosed product info card, she says “Blame it on me!… wear the T-shirt, mention Coco on twitter with hashtag #CocoMadeMeDoIt” …and she’ll comment on her faves!  Definitely going to partake in this!  So fun & silly!! (follow me: @luv_kimmykat)
  2. Cosmic Dust Deco Necklace, $48 on Baublebar.com (If this necklace is your style… It is a great deal!  Coco says she worked with Bauble Bar to make this piece, which has a crystalline collar and gold-flecked onyx stones.  It’s not my style unfortunately.  It is sold out right now on Baublebar.com… so hopefully that draws in more interest when I sell it on ebay)
  3. B & W Museum Nail Wraps, $12.50 on Mooreaseal.com (I love me some nail wraps!  I haven’t tried this brand yet, so i’ll give it go soon and put a review in my nail section.  Minimalist black & white designs that will go with anything!)
  4. A J Morgan Castro Sunglasses, $24 on Norstrom.com (I wasn’t crazy about these when i first saw them… but once I tried them on… I loved them!  Clear frames with silver tone metal accents, mirror lenses on a classic shape, …and they came with a simple black case too.  These went right into my purse to wear tomorrow!)

Four items total in this box, with a value of $100.50.  I paid just under $50 including shipping… AND… I really like 3 of the 4 items!  I will definitely be continuing my Coco Rocha Fancy Box subscription!  Can’t wait to find out what’s in the October box already LOL.

I give this Fancy Box 3 paws!
