Sally Hansen Salon Effects French Mani Gold Cabaret Review

Gold glitter french tip nail polish strips?! …what?! …that’s what I thought to myself when I first saw these!

Now that I’ve tried them… I’m more like… ughhh.

The gold glitter tips peeled off both thumbs after only 48 hours… while doing a few dishes. I ended up peeling off all the strips the next day, which only took a few minutes.

I’ve been using the Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Polish Strips for years… long before I started this blog… and I’ve never had a bad experience with them until now.

They were very easy to apply,… Gold glitter tips first, then the clear strips over the top of the whole nail… took less than 30 minutes total. I’m always on the go… so I love these strips because there is no dry time and there are so many patterns available! But… these did not last even close to the “up to 10 days” as listed on the box. I’m not sure if these didn’t have the same longevity as the full pattern strips because they are the French mani… but I would not purchase these again.

I do have another French tip design I’ve already purchased… with pink polka dots on white tips… so I will try those and see if they too only last 48 hours and report back!

Depending on promotional sales, I purchase these at CVS or Target for anywhere between  $6 – $12. For more detail on these polish strips, read my other blog posts for Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Polish Strips!

I love the design, but not the quality…

I give this product 1 paw.

Ipsy Subscription Review

Does a girl really NEED 12 new cosmetic bags a year?!

An old coworker was raving to me about this monthly subscription… and of course I’d heard of it… but never tried it because for the last year and a half I’ve been getting the monthly Birchbox subscription.

I decided to cancel my Birchbox subscription after 2 years, so I signed up for the Ipsy glam bag… after I was enticed with a bonus mascara for signing up LOL. I’m such a sucker for a freebie!!  I cancelled the Ipsy glam bag subscription after only 6 months… and here’s why:

  • I only liked 50% of the bags… I thought the January, March an April bags were hideous and so I gave them away.
  • There is no ‘how-to’ info card, to explain the products… or how to use them.  This was a big deal to me… because the extent of my make-up knowledge is mascara, eye-liner and lipstick.  I don’t experiment or do anything crazy with my make-up regimen… but I might if the glam bag included an info card like the Birchbox… or a how-to guide with tips… like I’ve heard the new Sephora Play subscription includes.

January 2016 glam bag:

February 2016 glam  bag:

March 2016 glam bag:

April 2016 glam bag:

May 2016 glam bag:

June 2016 glam bag:

The February and June bags are pretty adorable… and my favorite of the 6 bags!

I liked about 80% of the beauty products I received in the glam bags… which is an okay percentage.  I paid $10 a month, which isn’t bad to discover new beauty products… and some are full size!  A lot of great beauty brands included also…  I just wish there were tips on how to use the items in the glam bag.

I give this monthly subscription 3 paws.

Up & Up Nail Polish Remover Pads Review

Fed up like me, with sore hands from removing glitter nail polish?! These nail polish remover pads are a much better alternative to bottle nail polish remover & cotton rounds.  This is my first time venturing away from the traditional nail polish remover in a bottle. Despite the many acetone-soaked pad options available these days, I decided to start my sampling with this box from Target’s Up & Up brand.  Priced at $3 for a box of 10 extra thick felt pads, these claim to “help remove gel nail polish”.

This advanced formula “contains naturally derived coconut, avocado and olive oils” and claims to “help strengthen and nourish nails”.  So how did it perform?!?

  • Gelliebeans Gel Nail Polish — Did NOT help remove this gel nail polish, at all.  Nothing happened.  This is the true gel nail polish that requires the use of an LED light to set.
  • Sally Hansen OMGel! Polish — works wonderfully to remove polish on all 10 nails, with only 1 pad!
  • Sally Hansen Glitter Nail Polish Strips — this took 2 pads & I still had to clean up my nails & fingers with traditional bottle remover and cotton rounds.  Very messy & still a slight struggle.
  • Sally Hansen Non-Glitter Nail Polish Strips — Easily removed with only 1 pad!
  • OPI traditional, non-gel nail polish — works like perfection, with only 1 pad.

These pads are very very saturated with acetone, so although they easily remove most polishes, they can spread the polish onto your fingers, making quite the mess.  I wish these pads were slightly larger.  I will continue sampling nail polish remover pads… until I find the very best one!

I give this product 3 paws.

Essie Blanc Nail Polish + NailSpin Bunny Decals Review

I am SO obsessed with this nail lookand with this super fuzzy crowned chick that “spoke” to me at Pier 1 imports and followed me home LOL!  I bought these bunny nail decals about 6 months ago from the NailSpin shop on for $6.  You can buy these and more at:

  • I started with 1 coat of OPI natural nail base coat
  • Then, I applied 2 coats of Essie Blanc nail polish, (a really great white polish, $6 from CVS!)
  • I let my nails dry completely… and applied the decals hours later.

The decals came with simple application instructions… and they were right, Tweezers came in handy!

  • I first cut around all the bunny designs I wanted to use (background is clear).
  • One by one, I soaked them for 10-15 seconds in a tupperware filled with a 1/2 inch of water.
  • Once I removed the decal from the water, the image slid right off of the white backing paper.
  • I dipped my fingernail in water, to prevent the decal from sticking while I positioned it.
  • When I was happy with the placement, I carefully dabbed off the excess water so the decal would lay flat.
  • After I applied bunnies on all 10 nails, I applied 1 coat of OPI top coat.
  • 15 minutes later I applied a second coat of OPI top coat.

The result… these super adorable critter nails!

(I have my kitty Bentley to thank for that ugly scratch on my wrist…  He is just way too cute to get mad at though LOL!)

I just love ALL things critter themed… so it’s no surprise that I’m obsessing over this.  Having cute little bunnies on my nails just brightens my day!!  This is my first venture into the world of nail decals… and let’s just say I’m hooked!  I had no idea how easy they were to apply and how detailed and realistic looking they could be!  When I bought these decals, I also bought some grumpy cat ones… OMG I am so excited to do a nail design with those!

I give this Essie polish & the NailSpin bunny decals 4 furry paws!!!

Sally Hansen Pedicure Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips Review

I’ve been using the Sally Hansen Nail Polish Strips, pretty much since they first debuted on shelves years ago, so I was glad to see they came out with the pedicure version.  I bought these #301, “Snake, Rattle & Roll” at my local CVS store last year, so I’m not sure exactly how much I paid.

There were 5 different patterns in the collection, …which I’m not even sure if they’re in production anymore, since I haven’t seen them lately in stores.  However, I did find them being sold by various sellers on and for under $10 each.

These polish strip kits come with a mini nail file & buffer, cuticle stick, 18 strips in lots of sizes and instructions. They are so easy to apply & could take 15-30 minutes, depending on the prep time you took with filing & cuticle adjustments.  Plus there is no dry time, ..perfect for us last-minute stylish girls on the go!  Here’s what my polished toes looked like (in my fave fuzzy slippers from Target LOL) immediately after application:

These wraps really hold up, with no chipping, even while my tiny “piggy” toes are rubbing against straps while in my 5″ stilettos for a 9 hour work day!  I also bought the pink snakeskin design “Pink Boa”, which is another fabulous print.  See my review on “Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips” for more info and detailed tips on my experiences with the Sally Hansen real polish strips.  I love these and wish they’d come out with some new designs… but if not… I may be able to use the kits meant for fingernails… on my toes!

I give these 4 paws!

Revlon “Jungle Gem” Nail Art Style Strips Review

To ensure I didn’t get pinched this St. Patrick’s Day LOL… I decided I would rock these super awesome, sparkly green leopard & black Revlon Nail Art Style Strips that I’ve had stashed away for probably close to a year!  I’ve been waiting for the perfect time to wear these “Jungle Gem” strips, since I only had the one set!  I purchased them at CVS and I’m so sad that I didn’t stock up… because I love them and cannot find them in stores anymore!  They are not even on Revlon’s website!!  I did some research and only found them being sold by various sellers on ebay for around $5 each.

They are so easy to apply and look great on… not even a top coat is needed!  These are made of actual polish… you can smell that evidence once you open the sealed package!  You will need to use them immediately after opening the sealed strips, as air will cause them to dry out!  Kit includes: 16 strips in various sizes, a nail file and wooden cuticle stick.

  • Prep nails for application: swipe them with polish remover & gently push back cuticles.
  • Select the strips that best fit your nails.
  • There is a clear plastic cover on each strip you need to peel away, then remove the backing of the strip.
  • Position the strip onto your fingernail, press & stretch for a smooth, snug fit!
  • Crease strip at nail edge and file off the excess so that only your nail is covered & there is no overhang.

I found it best to not file your nails during the beginning prep, per the instruction, but rather wait an hour after application for them to set… and then trim your fingernails with clippers.  This way the strips have nice perfect lines on the tips!  Here is the spectacular final result:

Of course I accessorized with alligator & frog rings to keep up the green theme!  There were several other designs Revlon created in this collection, one that I am going to buy for sure on ebay is an adorable red lipstick print called “Lips & Tips”!!  I am going to send my rave review to Revlon and hope that another collection of Style Strips is on the way!

I give this product 4 stylishly nailed paws!!

Gwen Stefani for OPI “Unfrost My Heart” Nail Effects Trio Review

I happened upon this Gwen Stefani for OPI Nail Effects Trio while perusing the beauty section at T.J. Maxx.  I bought it for $9.99…. which is a great deal, considering OPI polishes are $9.50 – $12.50 each when bought at stores like Ulta or Macy’s.  The trio comes with the following polishes:

  • Unfrost My Heart
  • I’ll Tinsel You In
  • So Elegant

The back of the packaging gives a few design ideas incorporating the polish trio:

I decided to do a variation of the center design idea… but making it more dramatic with a thick layer of “So Elegant” down the center.  I started with OPI Natural Nail Base Coat, then 2 coats of “Unfrost My Heart”.  It looks pretty great on it’s own too!  It’s got a textured matte look that I haven’t seen before in a metallic polish…

When I first started to apply the “So Elegant” glitter polish, I thought it was going to be very difficult to position the hexagon glitter pieces in an appealing way down the center… but it got surprisingly easier and took me only 10 minutes to complete!  That bottle is seriously loaded up with glitter!!  I secured the design with OPI Top Coat.  I wasn’t sure if my photos captured the glittertastic final result as I saw it in person, so I included 2 photos below.

I really love the way this nail design came out!  I haven’t used traditional nail polish on my finger nails since I started using nail polish strips and gel polish… so this has convinced me to incorporate traditional nail polish into my manicures more often!  The design lasted 4 days without any chipping… and I type at work all day!  Even though day 5 left me with some chipped polish, it’s not easily noticeable… so I will probably rock this nail look a couple more days LOL.  I didn’t get to use the “I’ll Tinsel You in” polish on this design, but I’m excited to create a look with it for my next mani!

I give this nail effects trio 4 paws!
